Easter Basket Case

I always loved the "Before & After" category on Wheel of Fortune. The show hasn't been the same since Vanna stopped turning letters.

Another Easter down, in the books! It was a marathon six hours of family and friends. That doesn't sound like much but nowadays I get more tired, even faster. I loved seeing everyone and meeting new people, etc.. Joan's house is one of my favorite places.

What else is new? We have another triple stroller and 3 more carseats! My dad agreed to trade the 4 seat VW Bug for the 8 seat Dodge Grand Caravan! I went to my Buddy Mentor's house to see her triplets in action on Sunday!

OMG we're so NOT READY. Seeing three infants together at Easter was cute. Seeing three toddler triplets in action was almost surreal. Bless her heart... Kali has no clue. In some way I envy those with multiples on the first try - it might be easier not knowing what's on the way.

We go to the OB on Wednesday. Say we, because Brian might be able to go to this one. Good thing because he really should meet Dr. Nokleberg before delivery. Will know more then. = D

Check Facebook for selected pics from Easter or the serk.net page for all.

(Edit by Brian, pics added)

Our niece Audrey as well as our cousin's twins all lined up just to give us a glimpse of what's to come:

I just love this picture of Kali flying a kite at Aunt Joan's:

In other news...

So I go to the sub shop today after my OB appointment. One of the guys is a clown, laughing and stuff, kinda funny to watch. He sees me in line and comments, "Wow, you're glowing!" I laughed and said yes, so he asked how far along. "Little over 5 months," I say. He gets my bread and while putting stuff on, asks if it's a boy or girl.

My casual response was, "Two boys and a girl." He stopped, his jaw dropped and everyone got quiet for a moment. I smiled and said, "Yes, triplets." He asked, "Are you serious?!" I smiled and nodded again. "Yep!" He starts laughing and smiling, congratulating me and stuff, introduced himself and his coworkers... then proceeded to give me some of the chocolate chip cookies by the register. On the house. = )

Turned out to be a good sandwich, too.

Labels

Quick explanation of the subtitle:

When Dr. Thomas came in to do the first sonogram after I was confirmed pregnant, she said up front that she was always quiet when scanning until she was certain of what she sees. After that she would explain in more detail, so we should not be concerned about any silence. She started the scan while standing at the base of the exam table.

After a year of getting to know my ovaries on a first name basis, I knew something was up because she kept rescanning, quickly. I'd lost count but definitely more than one. It was then the doctor pulled up her stool, sat down and said, "Let me explain how we label multiples..."

First thought was, she didn't say twins. Second was, I didn't lose count. Third was something along the lines of, "Oh my..."

She continued scanning slower while explaining that multiple gestations are labeled according to the position of the placenta, starting from the cervix. "Here's Baby A.... Baby B... and Baby C." Dr. Thomas adjusted her chair and took a deep breath. "I need to get comfortable, this is going to take a while." She went back over everything and explained the measurements, positions, etc..

I'd expected twins based solely on my feelings, experience and intuition. I had been so tired, nauseous, etc. already, something never experienced with Kali. Triplets had been the joke, the funny "What if...?" scenario. The extended time, detailed view and explanations gave us (Brian, Kali and me) some time to wrap our minds around this very real, wonderful, fantastic, surprising and honestly frightening news.

We're still in shock, btw. = )
