Reality comes stomping in like a great big giant..... stomping thing...

Back in February we got our first REAL dose of reality, when we got a triplet stroller, and saw the thing parked in our kitchen.

It was a very profound moment. This is real. This is coming. We are so not ready for it, but it's coming anyway.

In the intervening months since then, we've gotten almost comfortable with the reality of the situation, almost passe about it. We know there's a freight train headed at us, but we've gotten almost relaxed about it. (Or at least I have, not trying to speak for the rest of the family TOO much! ;) )

We've been getting various baby things, either buying or being given them (THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to all that have helped!!!) over the months... But yesterday... We got cribs. Three identical, industrial cribs (They were surplus from a darycare center, slightly smaller than standard, and built solid.)

Wow... Seeing those lined up in the house really hits hard... They're coming, and they're coming soon, and we're so not prepared...

Yes, I'm a geek, never denied it, but the intro for World of Warcraft, The Burning Crusade keeps playing in my head... (The "You are not prepared" part, not the flying demons and warlocks parts... ;) )

Ridiculously Boring

Today, Sunday May 22nd, we're officially 28 weeks down the tracks of this crazy train. The pumpkins are doing great! Bunny has been more active this week; she's giving payback for Booger kicking her in the head. Buttons is just laid back, over it all and just chilling. They're right on target at 2lbs 10oz, 8oz & 11oz each. Cervix holding stable at 35mm. Blood pressure is excellent and swelling is minimal. Passed the glucose challenge (92 for those interested). Only iron (10.7) was slightly below normal (11), so adding a little more iron per day. *whew*

The perinatologist, Dr. Rinehardt, is happy with our progress. My feeling is he will be the one to to pull the trigger on bed rest/hospital admission. He reviewed the file and checked the sonos and we talked a bit; then he looked at me and said, "This pregnancy is ridiculously normal." Another two weeks between visits, no activity restrictions aside from common sense, and his final advice to me was "Stay boring."

So why was I up painting the nursery wall after midnight and posting blog updates at 3am? Because everything can change next week. Time's up.

We have no more than 7 weeks left. That's six weekends at best. Really? I'll be good for nothing but trying not to complain about being uncomfortable, those last couple few weeks. That leaves me two, maybe three good weekends. Two are already taken: Next weekend is Memorial Day; following weekend, June 4th, is my "Welcome Summer Party" and "Kali Survived 2nd!" and the "Not-A-Baby Shower Drop-In".

Today I bought two bouncers (have 3 total), two playpens (up & down stairs), 3 'entertainment centers' (stand-alone jumper, walker/exerciser, swing), double stroller, single stroller, a Bumbo, another Boppy, couple receiving blankets and a matching boys Christmas sweater set. Have a lead on a triplet activity table which may replace high-chairs for home.

Some people have asked, so here's a short list of key items still outstanding: Playtex Drop-Ins bottle system, bottle steamer, contour changing pad (bolts onto dresser), baby monitors. (Boppy and mattress - check - thanks!) Could use a couple older, smaller rocking chairs for strategic placement through the house. One large and three or six small dry erase boards. Tons of dry-erase markers. Anything is useful and appreciated! always need diapers, always. = )

We have carseats, triple stroller, linens, basic layette & clothes through 6 months. We have some toys and exercise mats. Honestly, we've been extraordinarily fortunate to know several friends and families who have been beyond generous. Thank you!

Anyway... it's 4am and I'm finally feeling smeepy enough to head off to bed. HaPPy BiRThDaY Mom! and night ya'll...

Time is fleeting...

Over halfway there... In week 25 now, Dr said they won't go past 35 weeks. Just 10 weeks left at best and could be sooner. All three are right at 2lbs each. Six lbs of babies... That's as big as some single babies get!

This week's sono was fascinating. Everyone is in good health, strong heartbeats and vigorous movements. Booger had the hiccups, Bunny was getting her kicks back at him and Buttons was just being a wiggle worm. He's the one using my ribs as playground equipment.

I've been feeling pretty good, get physically tired very quickly. Costco last weekend was a beating; had to test the lawn furniture for 15-20 minutes several times and was still worn out when we got home. Nights are hit or miss: good nights are good but if it starts off restless I don't recover. Weekends take their toll on Monday night - Tuesdays are by far my worst day of the week.

Anyway, here's the sono pics. (or not... but Brian's going to fix that. = )

Meanwhile, one last thing... a big THANK YOU to all the friends and family who have helped stock the nursery! Pennie and Penny and Karen and Jean and Erica and Suzette and Ken et al... thank you!!! Especially Mom... she's really been a lifesaving angel these last few months. Not for me... but for Kali. Thanks, Mom!
